Nan is a trial lawyer with almost 20 years experience in the state and federal courts of California and the District of Columbia. After building a successful practice in San Francisco representing insurance companies and other corporate entities, Nan moved to the District in 2002 to join her life partner and to devote her litigation skills to a child-centered practice focusing on protecting children and supporting loving families of all kinds. Nan serves as a court-appointed guardian ad litem in numerous cases and represents relatives and caregivers in D.C.'s Family Court. She specializes in complex adoption and custody disputes.

Prior to joining the Zavos Law Group PLLC in March, 2007, Nan was the Director of the Family Permanency Project at the Children's Law Center in Washington, D.C. for two years. The Project's mission was to ensure that at-risk children mired in the D.C. Abuse and Neglect system were provided legal protection through successful adoptions, guardianships, or custody proceedings with committed caregivers. In addition to supervising in-house attorneys, Nan worked with hundreds of outside pro bono attorneys, training them in best trial practices and providing on-going mentoring.

In 1988, Nan graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law. After law school and for over 15 years, Nan practiced law in California, representing individual and institutional clients in cases of various levels of complexity in the state and federal courts, specializing in insurance coverage and related litigation. She was a partner in two law firms (one with 25 attorneys and one with over 500 attorneys), supervising lawyers and becoming skilled in both handling complicated cases and in maintaining excellent client relationships.

Prior to attending law school, Nan worked with the Close Up Foundation and was on the staff of former United States Representative Bill Goodling. She is an active supporter of the Metropolitan Community Church in Washington, D.C. and the D.C. Dinner Program for Homeless Women.
